Asylbek Rajiev is a visionary leader and the founder of the Rural Tourism Alliance Kyrgyzstan, a groundbreaking initiative dedicated to promoting sustainable tourism in the rural regions of Kyrgyzstan. He also established Visit Kyrgyzstan, a tour operating wing of the Alliance that bolsters the country’s appeal as a premier travel destination.
With over 20 years of extensive experience in the community-based tourism (CBT) sector, Asylbek has served as CEO in various roles for 14 years, focusing on sustainable tourism development and ecotourism since 2003. His lifelong passion for travel, inspired by dreams of exploring the world, has seen him visit more than 40 countries, which enriches his understanding of global tourism trends and practices.
Asylbek’s leadership and strategic foresight have been instrumental in successfully guiding numerous tourism projects. Notably, he previously held the position of Executive Director of the Kyrgyz Community Based Tourism Association (KCBTA), where he advanced significant tourism initiatives that benefited local communities.
Throughout his career, Asylbek has led projects supported by prestigious international organizations such as the European Union (EU), USAID, JICA, GIZ, ACTED, Helvetas, and UNDP. He has also collaborated closely with the Peace Corps, promoting sustainable tourism practices and enhancing the livelihoods of rural communities. His work with foreign tour operators has established valuable partnerships that further highlight Kyrgyzstan’s unique offerings as a travel destination.
Under Asylbek’s guidance, the Rural Tourism Alliance aspires to create meaningful opportunities for local communities while showcasing the rich cultural heritage and stunning natural beauty of Kyrgyzstan.
